About the Race, Power, & Privilege Facilitation Guide

This guide is thoughtfully structured with lessons that correspond with the sequence of the Race, Power, & Privilege e-course, providing lessons that deepen understanding of each topic. Lessons are designed to take approximately 1.5–2 hours to complete and are arranged to accommodate the dynamic flow of a group setting for both remote and in-person group settings. The lessons offer flexibility, encouraging facilitators to experiment and break away from hierarchical relations that often characterize facilitation. The guide also offers additional resources, sample language, and facilitation frameworks tailored to different group dynamics. It can be used independently of the e-course, serving as a valuable tool for facilitators in a variety of settings. PLEASE NOTE: This download is meant for individual use only. We kindly ask that our documents not be shared widely in your network or school community. For institution-wide access please contact us at [email protected]

About the Creators

SHIFT SHIFT is a women of color-owned, racial and gender equity education and consulting group. It was established in 2017, at the height of the #MeToo movement. Its founders—Natalie Bui, Kausar Mohammed, and Veline Mojarro—were deeply craving a space for their own communities to engage in honest dialogue and accountability. And as women of color, survivors, and educators, it was imperative for them to center and elevate the work of people in the Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC), LGBTQIA+, and disabled communities. SHIFT is a space where we hope to not only provide support in building tools to create institutional, sustainable, and transformative change—but also a space to engage in radical re-imagining. We strive to create spaces that are centered on infinite possibilities, care, accountability, lifelong learning, and built on true relationships and community.
